Design of a marine propeller for scale racing boats in a speed and energy efficiency contest

The process of optimized design, evaluation and manufacturing high energy efficiency propellers for competition boats at scale is addressed in this research. This project uses the stages hydrodynamic numerical testing four prototypes as example. During three design methodologies were compared, namely: Blade Element Theory, lifting line theory based on DTMB propeller series. objective function obtaining chord pitch distribution that generates greatest thrust, speed efficiency. Similarly, performance each prototype was evaluated by CFD a virtual channel registering torque speed. Finally, additive applied presented. Prototyped present efficiencies maximum speeds approximately 15% higher than recommended commercial type boats. study developed Hydrometra group framework international Hydrocontest 2017.
